For years we called this peach “Unknown” or “Mystery Peach”. The small trees came from a nursery labeled as a nectarine variety that we ordered, but a few years after planting when we got our first fruit, it was fuzzy! We asked customers last season who tried it to suggest names. Among the suggestions were: Pe-can Peach Unknown, Kevin’s Sweet and Juicy, Honey Sweet, August Star and Bend Over peach (because it’s so juicy you have to bend over to eat it!). We settled on Summer Surprise (another customer suggestion) because it really was a surprise for us, and it turned out to be a great surprise!
