A Macoun Apple ready to be picked at McDougal Orchards

About the Macoun apple

Another New York state variety, the Macoun was introduced in 1923 as a McIntosh – Jersey Black cross. Named after Canadian fruit breeder W.T. Macoun, this apple has a very strong following and is an excellent, extremely crispy, eating apple. It is by far one of our most requested varieties! Many use Macouns for cooking, but they are excellent fresh eating apples, too.

McDougal Orchards grows Macoun apples. Located only 45 minutes from Portland, ME and 1.5 hours from Boston, MA, McDougal Orchards is easy to get to. Come enjoy picking your own fruit during the typical harvest season of Late September, enjoy Apple Cider Donuts at Capt. Jack's Donut Shack on the weekends and browse our farm store with lots of goodies.
