McDougal • Orchards

Some 2023 updates:

Early in the morning on May 18th, while the apple trees were in full bloom, the temperature fell below freezing. That dip in temperature has damaged some of our apples, but we still have a crop and expect good picking for this season.

There will be NO peaches, nectarines or plums this year. The frigid temperatures in February killed all of the buds.

Right now you can look forward to picking*:

  • Golden Delicious

  • Crispin/Mutsu

  • Empire

  • Macoun

  • McIntosh
  • Cortlands (very few left)
  • Raspberries (no picking on Wednesdays)

Coming soon:
Fortune, Brock, more heirloom varieties

In the Farm Store we have limited quantities of:
Jonathan
Spencer
Cox Orange Pippin
Margil
Jonagold
Pears

*Reservations are strongly encouraged if you are visiting on a Saturday or a Sunday to pick fruit or participate in wagon rides, maze or pumpkin patch. There is NO COST and it helps keep our parking lots from overflowing. Click on the red button above for more information or to make your reservation.

We are OPEN for the 2023 Season!

Our Hours Are:

Monday-Wednesday 9am-5pm

Thursday-Friday 9am-6pm

Saturday-Sunday 9am-5pm

Monday to Wednesday is a great time to visit. Usually the orchard is a little quieter so you can feel relaxed wandering through the apple trees or bringing a picnic lunch to enjoy. Check out our Orchard Education Center to learn more about growing and harvesting apples, spend some time in Fairy Village building houses or take a walk on our trails while you are here!

Thursdays and Fridays we stay open a little later to give our customers a chance to visit after work but before the busy weekend.

Saturdays and Sundays are usually our busiest days, which is why we suggest making a weekend u-pick reservation if you are planning to pick fruit, take a weekend wagon ride or visit the maze or pumpkin patch. Wagon rides run from 10am-4pm (weather permitting) and Captain Jack’s Donut Shack is open with fresh donuts and other treats! We also typically have a food truck on the property from 11am-2pm serving lunch options.

The best way to stay informed during the season:

“McDougal Orchards is a seventh generation (going on eighth!) family farm specializing in the production of tree fruit available for sale to u-pick and farm store customers from early August thru October.
We invite families of all ages to step back in time, slow down, relax and enjoy the farm’s healthy, high-quality agricultural products and low-impact recreational opportunities.
We grow over 40 varieties of apples, as well as peaches, nectarines, plums, pears, fall-raspberries, pumpkins and winter squash. We have a corn maze, a fairy village and miles of walking trails, too!”

Sustainability

We currently rotate our maze and squash/pumpkin plantings among four fields on the farm. When not being cropped (or played in!), all fields are planted to cover crops to increase soil health. New apple tree plantings are mulched with hardwood chips to discourage rodents, conserve moisture, increase soil bioactivity, and help with weed control. We follow integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to limit pesticide use and efficiently control orchard pests and diseases.

It’s tradition for us to visit the orchard with family, pick delicious apples, go on a fun hay ride with the kids, pick out our favorite pumpkins and enjoy delicious apple cider donuts and hot cocoa while the kids play on the playground. We love everything about it! The atmosphere, the friendly staff and all the authentic touches that make us feel at home... We ❤️ McDougals!

I love that you can drive right out into the orchard and there are all types of apples to choose from. They offer picking sticks to use for the high up apples you can’t reach (which I should have took advantage of) and the people that run the orchard are super friendly.

Our first time there and it was such a nice experience. Everyone was so very nice. There were so many different apples to pick and different sections (wagon rides for kids in back section). All the apple donuts and cider and slushees were amazingly yummy! You can pick raspberries and other fruits as well! There were other things for kiddos to do too! I definitely recommend this orchard!
